2014 White SE with CVT
I had an '09. It was never really exposed to rain down here, but then I drove it up to Oregon, and the spare tire well was full of water within 24 hours. It was a pretty easy fix, though, just adding some extra RTV around the tail light foam gasket. The '07 I got for my dad never leaked.
We may have to change the title of this thread. The Yaris is not dead!

No manual transmission = Not interested for me.
I do like the use a 6 speed automatic over a CVT, however. Toyota has been having some CVT issues of their own in recent years. For example -
"Toyota is recalling about 3,400 of its 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchbacks because of a faulty component in the transmission. If the part fails while the car is in motion, it could cause the vehicle to lose its power. ... Only Corolla Hatchbacks with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) are included in the recall." Dead as far as I can tell. I don't want to buy a Toyota and end up with some Mazda product. Yuck.

That face is unfortunate!
Thread title updated!
Most interesting to me: there's no manual transmission. At least "not yet", according to the Jalopnik story.

When we bought our 2006 Scion XA (brand new but still on the dealer lot a year after it was made) we had also been looking at other small cars, including the Yaris. But at the time, there were NO 4-door hatchback Yarises in the USA. Articles I read, said that the 4-door hatchback Scion XAs were being sold as Yarises in some other countries. Interestingly, they soon bumped up the engine size on Yarises, so the 2006 Scion XA got better gas mileage than those Yarises. We mostly got around the predicted 38mpg, or a little higher, but I got up to 44 mpg on some segments of a long highway trip.
We got over 100,000 miles out of the original brakes on that Scion. It was only just beginning to get body rust when we traded in two weeks ago. It was probably the most dependable vehicle we have ever owned. The only thing we ever found wrong with it was that the Fuel Evaporative System had a totally defective design, and it's expensive to repair after the warranty runs out and it keeps breaking every couple of years. When that problem caused the engine light to show on the dash, it didn't cause any noticeable performance problems though.

I really like the new Mazda2 and most of the upcoming 2020 Yaris. However, there won't a manual transmission available, so I don't see one in my future.
