I am one of those owners that drive economically. Never have I recorded more than 4.3L/100km, usually it gets around 4.0L/100km or less. The plugs were the same sort from NGK as it says in the owners manual, they have since been replaced with the equivalent sort from Denso. I am satisfied with them and can recommend them both. Both the NGK and the DENSO variant are good. They typically last more than 150000km / 100000miles. When they are finally finished, the rare metal "pill" is gone, and the car has a slight tendency to misfire and they should be replaced asap.

If you stay with what the manual says, you will be happy. If you really want more exotic plugs, then get them, but don't complain if it is only your wallet that notices any difference.

About 75,600 now, just passed that "high mileage" mark. Started having some oil consumption last summer, so I recently gave it a piston soak with MMO to clean out the carbon deposits. Definitely smoothed things out, and we'll see if that cured the oil issue.

If you get carbon deposits on the pistons and Toyota style carbon-caked oil rings, you definitely have not been using synthetic oil or have not changed it in time. If you use an oil compliant with VW50400 standard, there will be no carbon deposits even if you leave it in twice as long as it should be.
