It cleans up the intake because the PCV system does pull up oil vapors and the oil coat intake bits.

In this case, that positive doesn't outweigh the negatives from this mod. The downside is increased emissions due to allowing blow-by (unburnt fuel) to escape to the atmosphere. This will marginally decrease fuel economy. It will also decrease fuel economy and horsepower by not putting a vacuum on the crankcase. This makes your pistons push air around on both sides of the piston (top and bottom). If the crankcase is in a vacuum, there isn't (as much) air to push, and it frees up some power. The vacuum will also help de-aerate the oil if any frothing happens. This shouldn't be an issue, but its never a bad thing.

Its only unwise to modify something when you don't fully understand how a system works and why it is there. Once you understand what it does and why, you can change it to your hearts content.

The maker of that video should stop making videos. It's sad there are actually people who will copy stuff like this cause the internet says it's true.

I had an old Ford pickup with quite a bit of blow-by, and it had a 'breather' attached to the valve cover. This was before closed PCV systems and was essentially an open vent for the crankcase.

The worst thing about it was the SMELL. Blow-by would be forced out the breather, get sucked up into the cowl vents, and would come into the cab through the heater.

    Those were the days.

And that's the kind of stuff young enthusiasts have no experience with. "I'm gonna remove this PCV valve and breather system and just put a little filter on the cam cover." And "I want to remove this charcoal canister and purge valve because I want my engine bay to be neat and tidy, it's just emissions crap, anyway." And then they wonder why their car smells like a refinery.

Until you've experienced it, you just don't understand.
    Simplify and add lightness.
