Hey Daox, any updates? How's this manual transmission fluid performing in this cold weather?

There is very little info out there on this fluid and it being used. Perhaps the google machine is funneling traffic here?

My impressions after ~5 months of use are pretty much the same. It shifts great. The coldest ambient temps I've seen are 4F so far. It has shifted nearly identically to summer use at 4F. I find this great.
Though, I do think with the OE fluid it had to get down in the negative temps to really feel the oil thicken up. I am quite happy with it. This time of year is where its going to pay off. I don't think it does much of anything for efficiency or power in the warm weather. But, in the cold it certainly is thinner than the OE fluid.

Hey Daox, can you give an update on how the MT-LV is holding up for you?

Also, what happened to the second photo in this post? It's not showing up for me.

My engine was still a bit warm, and the oil coming out was still thicker than the oil going in. Also, it was interesting to see that the oil is actually red in color. The OE oil was a like a slightly browned engine oil, but the new oil was... well take a look. I am guessing this oil is much more akin to ATF than traditional manual trans oil.

I've been quite happy with the new trans oil. I have had no issues at all. The real perk is that winter shifting performance is indistinguishable from summer shifting.

At some point, I'd like to do an oil analysis. However, I doubt I have enough miles on the oil to do the analysis yet.

Also, I fixed the image link.

I wouldn't expect you to have any issues, but I can honestly say that I don't feel any difference between summer & winter shifting with the factory OEM manual oil or the recommended Redline MTL oil for my Mirage. I did two winters with the OEM oil, & the past winter with Redline MTL. This past winter in Wisconsin was quite mild, however.

I have noticed a difference in cold weather manual shifting with all of my other manuals over the years, including my current Forester. The Mirage is the one exception.

I agree Mark. It had to get really cold for me to notice a difference. I think around 0F I noticed the difference. This really doesn't happen to often or for very long here.

That being said, there is a difference and that difference is there year round. How much effect it has has been imperceptible though. I can't say I'm getting 1 mpg better or anything like that. I know its better, but its not measurable with the tools I have available.
