Good luck! Don't forget to flush and renew the coolant.
BASF may be the largest coolant maker in the world, but we don't know if our cars have their coolant as OEM.
Regular Glysantin G30 is violet in colour, but OEM Mitsu stuff is different. G64 was made especially for preventing these problems of high-pressure die-cast engines, and is of different colour yet.
I believe BASF coolants are marketed as Valvoline/Zerex in the States, don't know what sort they specify there.
I do think that VW TSB matches these problems pretty well, and deserves being read and observed.

Got it all stripped down and removed th core. The part she sent with the car is wrong.
The dealer wants $452.00 for the heater core. If I order from Rock Auto here car will be down for a week.
You going to throw us a bone and cut open the old core?

I would, but I feel she is going to have me put the car back together with the old core. Having issues trying to order from Rock Auto with Visa authentication right now and getting a little stressed. I wish I could clean the old one out.
I don't have the faintest notion what dissolves that goo! If I had to try getting rid of it, I would probably try attaching a garden hose to flush it out. If that doesn't do the trick, maybe I would try acetone.
I've had great results using commercial drain cleaner in copper heater cores. Flushing back and forth with a garden hose and compressed air seemed to help too. Not as effective as replacing it though.

Well we got one ordered through my Rock Auto account and it will be here Tuesday night or Wednesday. I hope it's the correct part.
