I'd love a before and after pic if you dont mind. Even trucks want 'leveling' springs because the rears are usually higher than the fronts.

Wow... if VW spring will work, that opens up loads of opportunities for suspension goodies...

Agree, that'd really give a lot of options. Good find!

I will get some pictures tomorrow morning as I swapped back to the original springs to have my alignment checked today along with my free oil change. Keep in mind that the VW beetle that I pulled these springs from is a heavier car. I wouldn't go with anything stiffer than the beetle's original spring rate, at least not with the mirages original shocks. If I go over a speed bump too fast the rear will sound like some of the front struts that people have had issues with. If I wasn't at work I would be putting the VW springs in right now. The reviewers were right; the suspension is way too soft to inspire confidence at highway speeds.

I started searching for 1998 vw beetle lowering springs... I think we may be able to use these...

For 45$, why not?
I am not sure on the fronts fitment yet. I won't have a chance to go out to the yard to pull apart and measure the beetles front for at least a month. As long as it is not stiffer than the factory springs and is estimated to lower the beetle by 1" to 1 1/2" it should put you right around factory ride height. I need to re aim my headlights due to them being low from the factory and now with the added height in the rear.
Is rockauto.com able to get the physical dimensions of suspension components for comparison between manufacturers?

Check this out... I can't be 100% sure until I have my hands on them, but the rear shocks look similar? It may be longer, but still work...
The top mounts of the VW is definitely different than ours

The rear shocks act as the down travel limiters for the rear suspension. If they are too long the coil springs could fall out or the brake lines could be damaged as they are the next item to limit the rear axle's movement. With out measurements for the factory equipment to use for comparison it will be difficult to find better replacement parts.
