So what you really want to do is get one of those Ford Focus louver systems from a rear-end collision junk-yard Focus, and adapt it to the Mirage! You might only be able to use the actuator mechanism and then design your own louvers to fit the Mirage spaces.

In my own case, I'll just read along with interest but not actually be concerned about modifying our Mirage unless we see winter mpgs plummet more than I might expect. I also expect I'd go the tape route first.

If I were to go higher-tech than tape, a louver system, I could control with a lever or knob from the driver's seat would be very nice. Something as easy to use as the manual choke I had to install on my '64 Ford Galaxie 500 would do very nicely.

I have my next step mostly designed. I just need some time to print it out, put it together and give it a try. I have a 3d printed louver setup that I think will work very nicely. If I ever get to swapping it over to the Mirage, I'll post it on the forum. This link has a little more info in it.

That's a very interesting thread. It got me wondering whether you could have a small area in your full-frontal air dam, as close to the automatic fan as possible, that was would be triggered to open whenever the fan kicked on? Maybe a small circle or rectangle. It might be much easier to do than wide louvers. Or, if it triggered a few degrees lower than the fan, perhaps the fan would come on even more rarely!

I got your grill block all made up and it is in the mail as of today.

Here is a sneak peak of how it'll look.

    Yellow looks good on red.
I can see how this would be difficult to make. It's a very tight area. Overall I recommend buying. Gives the car needed personality. I'm keeping it on year around!
