When was the last time you had a car without AC?

Darin and I were talking about this the other day. I am currently in the process of selling my 2004 Honda Civic DX. The DX is the base trim model and has much less in creature comforts than the Mirage. We're talking crank windows, manual locks, and yes, no air conditioning.

So, when was the last time you owned a car that didn't have air conditioning?

Custom Mirage products: Cruise control kit, Glove box light, MAF sensor housing, Rear sway bar, Upper grill block

Current project: DIY Nitrous oxide setup for ~$100

I've owned somewhere around 30 cars. Only 2 of them have had AC (2004 Toyota Prius, 2007 Honda Civic). Ironically, both of those were used as "winter beaters".

I'm not counting my "summer beater" 1990 Miata as #3. It came with factory air, but it was busted when I got it, so I yanked it out for weight savings and accessory belt drag reduction. Besides, who wants a convertible with AC? It's like an umbrella with a sunscreen dispenser.

You can still buy a surprising number of base model cars in Canada without air, including the Civic if I'm not mistaken. Of course hardly any dealers stock these cars because those base cars are also stick shift. They just exist so they can advertise the low MSRP to get people in the door and upsell them. Of course most people actually want auto & AC.

I wonder if there are any base cars in the US that come without air.

    Still do.

No AC, no power windows (no windows), no power locks (no doors to lock), no power brakes.

I think the last time I intentionally bought a car that came without AC was around 2005 when I bought my last Spitfire. Triumph Spitfires were produced from 1962 through 1981 and never came with AC.

But, I was flipping Miatas for fun and profit for a couple years after that. I had at least one that didn't have AC. (must have been a Northern car!)

And my S10, while it HAS AC... the AC doesn't work.
    Simplify and add lightness.

I'm glad your sentence didn't end with (no brakes to use)! Nice Jeep by the way!

2004 would have been the last time I owned a car that didn't have A/C.

2004 was the year that I sold my 1990 Ford Festiva (No A/C, no automatic transmission, no power brakes, no power windows, no auto door locks, no air bags, no cruise control, no traction control, no passenger side mirror, no armrest, & it came without any stereo system or speakers (but I did add those). A Festiva L (designed my Mazda, built by KIA, sold by Ford) makes the base model Mirage ES seem like a luxury hatchback.

My 1988 Isuzu Trooper didn't have A/C, but I didn't own that vehicle as long.

This 1978 F150, about 2-3 years ago. I am glad it didn't have AC because it wouldn't have worked and my OCD would have compelled me to spend a bunch of money making it work.

AC really isn't necessary around here. It only gets over 90 degrees for a total of about 5-6 weeks a year.
