U.S. 2019 Mirage Review - The Car Connection (brutal!)

    Sigh:

The 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage challenges the assumption that there are no bad new cars anymore.
They mention the good things (price, fuel economy, warranty, interior room, city maneuverability), but lambaste it for just about everything else:

    • Dismal acceleration
    • Scary highway handling
    • Very noisy at speed
    • Lousy safety ratings

    And this is factually wrong:

The 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage gets middling crash test scores and offers no active safety technology to speak of.
    So is this:

No matter how much you spend, the 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage delivers little more than basic motoring.

There's a link soliciting owner reviews. I question if there's any point in acknowledging their drive-by review with a proper response.

The car runs "against the grain" of North American culture. (To borrow an analogy from shaving)

Thats the bottom line and that is why Pro reviewers will always dislike the car.

It has alot more to do with culture than it does with the car itself.

True but you can tell there is hints of nostalgia for this sort of econo box, the reviewer doesn't say it unfortunately, but the whole 30 years ago throwback aspect of the Mirage they repeat a few times in the article has something to say about the Mirage being appealing.

I like this quote from the bad review the best: "The Mirage is loud, crass, and jumpy with the engine at full blast and the suspension booms into the cabin as it struggles to deal with road imperfection" Honestly they have a point

Why the 3.3 scores on every category ?? I do not know. They have a point sorry Mirage lovers and likers, I say that honesty even if I'm basically happy 2014 Mirage ES owner 5 years. Not everyone's cup of tea.

I can't wait for tomorrow, I get my first test drive and I hope it is everything they say. Loud, crass and jumpy, I really hope I am not dissapointed. Please Mirage live up to the hype

If you're interested the jalopnik review of the Mirage gets it right with many of the more positive qualities of the car, such as light weight, unique engine, go cart feel. I always wanted a 90's Civic hatchback, and my 2014 Mirage I believe has satisfied that car want for me overall, and 10 year warranty!

I will spare everyone the effort of reading this review by summing it up with one sentence:

"The Mitsubishi Mirage isn't a $25,000 car being sold for $13,795, so you shouldn't spend $13,795 on it."

I can't believe how obtuse some automotive journalists are...

I found it strange that they gave the 2019 Mirage a 3.3, but gave the 2018 model...a 4.0! If the authors of both reviews are using the same highly sophisticated, standardized testing methods...as they claim...how did this happen?

Did the car somehow get WORSE?

Must be the added features like standard cruise control.

If you keep pushing your standards, a car which doesn't improve should get lower numbers each year.
