    thank you, hopefully the tire shop will put them on without giving me a hard time because i'm seeing the rim should be at least 5 vs the 4.5" on my mirage now

    Yeah tireshops always say that because the system says it won't fit. I tell them what tire sizes I have on and never had anything rub.

    Rim width/inches = Recommended tire widths/mm
    4.5" = 145 – 175 mm
    5.0” = 155 – 185 mm

    175/65r14 tires should be fine on 14" x 4.5" rims

    165/65r14 = 22.4” outside diameter
    175/65r14 = 23" outside diameter = +2.7% variance
    185/60r14 = 22.7” outside diameter = +1.3% variance

    Within 3% variance is considered OK by most tire professionals.

    175/65r14 tires on 14" x 4.5" rims should be perfectly fine.

    Dunlop Winter Maxx 2 & Nokian Nordman 7 are the two most common 165/65r14 snow tires I have seen on the market for the States in recent years.

    thanks, but they are R15s, not r14s ... does that still fit into they should be perfectly fine? and within a variance that is considered OK by most tire professionals?

    175/65r15

    175/65r15 will not work! You can't put a 15" tire on a 14" rim.

    175/65r15 = 24" outside diameter (over 7% tire variance).

    Try to find the same tire in the 175/65r14 size, & you'll be perfectly fine.

    If snow tires are your true desire, I would stick with your 14" rims.
