Cold/windy enough to cool the car down at stoplights

So it's something most people will never experience but when it's cold and windy enough, the cars coolant temp will actually cool markedly.
And it makes it even more apparent when you have a scan gauge.
The Mirage usually sits at 192-197 normal operating temp. But today, it was dropping all the way to 165-168 at stop lights.
That is normal in these conditions but without any gauge you will never know it.

    Lovely weather

I've noticed the same thing. Especially when I have my heater fan running. The engine isn't working nearly as much, so doesn't generate as much waste heat.

I'll keep my heater fan off as long as I can tolerate to get the coolant temp up on my short commute. I'll often turn on my heater fan at about 165℉ (74℃.) When I do, the coolant temperature drops.

Yeah another key temp for ppl without any sort of gauge is 137deg F. That's the temp that the green temp light goes out everytime.

You running a partial grille block, pryme?

It's a funny problem to have... byproduct of an efficient engine.

Some owner of the hyperefficient 1st gen Honda Insight actually made a custom fit fireproof engine 'blanket' to retain what little heat it generates!

No, I have not added any grill blocks. The windchill was 25 below and tomorrow morning its supposed to be 40 below.

The grill block really helps IMO.
Custom Mirage products: Cruise control kit, Glove box light, MAF sensor housing, Rear sway bar, Upper grill block

Current project: DIY Nitrous oxide setup for ~$100

Do you guys only use the grill block in the winter? Is it safe to use? Thinking of getting one if it really helps keep it warm that much.
