My driver side axle was making noises 10 or 15 thousand miles ago. I replaced it with a nice used part from LKQ online.

Pulling it isn't too difficult but you do need a nice pry bar to get it out. Other than that, its pretty much the same job as changing one in a Geo Metro. Super easy.

    Hello,

How many miles did your Mirage have on it when you started hearing the noises?

    Question:

Because CV joints are supposed to cost a fortune of $ 840, will a CV joint from a 2004-2006 Smart For Four or from a 2004-2012 Mitsubishi Colt fit on our cars? Because they have virtually the same chassis, and share many parts, it might well be they also have the same CV joints.

That's an interesting point foama. Do they also share the same Transmissions?

Transmissions: The Colt has a similar looking transmission, the Smart is different. There are many aftermarket parts for the Colt.

    EDIT, INFO ADDED:

    Update! Hope this helps.

You could get a CV-joint for both wheel side and gearbox side from:

Maker FEBEST part number 0410-A13 (CVT, wheel side) = OEM MITSUBISHI 3815A423, 3815A424 (€105.66)

Maker GSP part number 841423 (MT, wheel side) = OEM Mitsu 3815A569, 3815A570 (€25.80)

Maker FEBEST Part number 0411-A13 (CVT gearbox side) = OEM MITSUBISHI 3817A206 (€92.67)

A rubber boot for the wheel side CV joint: Febest 0517P-M2 (€18.84)

Quoted prices in € as seen today in Fleabay.

    This is great information.

I am hoping that someone will confirm that the CV joints from these other cars will also fit the later model Mirage.

There might be something out there that'll work. Rockauto shows specs for some a1cardone brand axles https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...sn=587&jsn=587. Does the colt have an abs ring on the axle? The mirage doesn't.
If someone has a lot of time on their hands and the Mirage axle specs they could probably find something.

Hey Fummins, just curious, have you had to replace any cv axles in your fleet yet?

  12. #20
Yeah I've replaced a half dozen or so already. Mileage varies but can usually get well over 200,000kms out of one depending on how it's driven. One car here has 390,000km/242xxxmiles on the original axles (and cvt).
