Thread: Wet floor

Yup, they've all had the recalls done. Rather, they were all taken to the dealership to have the recalls done, but I'm pretty sure sweet f all was done to this car. If I recall, the recall said something about checking connection(likely the one I just replaced) for corrosion and fix if necessary and install a plastic shield to divert water from connection, or something like that? This one had a black piece of rubber plastic half assed attatched near the plug.

Some car's didn't have the recall completed for the airbag light coming on when you get a flat tire or on rough roads but that was just a software update.

After re installing the kick panel on the christmas tree airbag light car, I notice the push in clip near the top center of the lh kick panel clips into the retainer for the harness connections. If water got behind in that hole it'd drain right down all the connectors. I'm not installing that clip and just gonna duct tape it. Me like duct tape.

I was given an pair of "original Red Green suspenders" years ago for Christmas....I have to pull my DS kick plate up to do some corrosion remediation on those electrical connectors, I had some of those idiot lights go on & off (&on) on me yesterday.

I've just inspected the plug/connectors that I weather proofed 4 years ago and no visible corrosion ( although some may have begun from behind) so I sprayed some deoxit5 I bought for a paying job a couple of years ago into the conductors and all the trouble lights have gone out. I recommend this deoxit stuff even though it's a bit pricey.

It seems like the back side of the connector, facing away from you is where the corrosion starts. You gotta get in there with a mirror or slide the plug out of the holder it sits in to get a good look. It's usually the wire's at the bottom corners that start. Or somethings the pins turn color.

I've got a duct tape back window in my truck right now. Had my rzr bouncing around in the box on some pretty rough roads on the weekend and got a little too close. Duct tape to the rescue.

    take heed!

As a warning to others to keep this issue in mind, here's what will happen from chronically wet carpets:

Patches welded in, driver's side front & rear:

That's my $1k beater Miata, which was never winter driven! All that damage was caused by wet carpets & underlay due to a drippy convertible top.
