Thread: CVT Owners, Assemble!

  1. #11
I don't own one but from the fleet of 30 something Mirage's we've had 3 that needed replacement. One at 304k kms, one at 223k kms and one that still worked fine but make a weird noise was replaced under warranty around 89k kms. We had another car that was having some issues, I don't know many details but after a fluid change from the dealer it seems to be ok again?

The highest mileage cvt we have with the original cvt has 261800kms in a 2015.The next highest 15's have 202k,199k,197k. For the 17's we've got 3 with almost 170k kms and they weren't easy one's I'm sure.

Off topic, the obd gps' we used weren't cheap but the seller probably bought a sea can of em and is making a killing. They worked great in all of the 70 or so vehicles I've put them in with zero problems except the finiky Mirage.

I'm sure the overwhelmng majority of CVT owners will report zero problems.

On the other hand, CVT issues in general (not just the handful of Mirage problems) have made me reconsider recommending any belt-driven style CVT to friends/family who will keep a car past its powertrain warranty.

(Oh and also dual clutch automatics. Hello, Ford! )

In my entire life, I can only think of one conventional automatic slushbox failure among all my family/friends/acquaintances. And it only lost reverse gear.

48000 km with no issues, frankly the only reason I went with the CVT was some upcoming surgery at the time and had to rely on chauffeurs that couldn't drive a manual trans so went with the Mirage as it had the 10 yr warranty, and (on paper) better fuel economy although I was skeptical....turns out my suspicions were well founded.

46000 miles on my 2014 DE. Just took it on a 700 mile road trip. Did fantastic on the highway kept it at 80 the whole way. CVT def takes some getting used to but Im getting more and more confidant in my car's reliability.

Was it a Saturn? (Super common for Saturns to lose Reverse gear)

Believe it or not, it was a Toyota Camry .... from the so-called "bulletproof" years! Early-mid 90's.

My dad's car. He had it repaired, sold the car to a friend (with full disclosure), and it continued on to a long life with a couple hundred thousand miles on it.
