Just the one, there was one screw and 2 clips holding the pcb in but the tricky part was bending the leads connecting the lcd screen to it. There is no ribbon cable.
I teased it open a little bit at a time and propped it open with anything suitable to take a break, eventually got it open enough to work on.I wouldn't do this more than once as the solder joints could eventually break.

The toothpick points to the empty smd pads for the CC led.

Unless one has tried it, it's hard to imagine how difficult it can be to solder with such small components.

Where'd you get your training and tools?

I had a bit of training in high school and was a model airplane enthusiast since grade school, self taught mostly.
I had access to tools that the average grade schooler didn't as my father was a tool & die maker at an air force base.
Never owned a car or anything mechanical that I didn't try to take apart or improve....my last car was a diesel smart fortwo and I pulled that apart fixing or improving things on it. I worked on the computer in that too, replaced the relay for the door locks that Smart decided just had to be hardwired into the PCB with no thought of what would happen if it ever kakked....

Cracking the gauge pod open accomplished one of two goals, the one that succeeded was making the TS blinkers more visible. The specs on the new leds state they are 3x brighter than the old ones. 5050's vs 3528's.
Made up a short clip...the clock lower left doesn't have power to it yet.

Especially since Mitsubishi is well known as a luxury brand.

I guess cheaped out wasn't the right word. I have no clue how cars are built but I figured in some cases it just might have made more financial or ease of production sense to just use the same part in one entire model line rather than not include one led in some cars and do in others. How many options are there gonna be if you need to order a new cluster from the evil soul sucking Mitsubishi dealer? Or even try to source a used replacement when it's time to sell your car and you want to knock off a few hundred thousand miles lol

You'll have to clean your plugs and throttle body first though.

Did anyone ever figure out how to adjust the odometer on these things? I am asking because I would love to swap in the UK-style cluster with chrome gauge garnishes. Looks much nicer than the one in my base model!
