I love my Toyotas that I have. Besides the Mirage and my Chrysler LeBaron (which uses a Mitsubishi engine) the other six vehicles we own are Toyotas. Two Corollas, two Yarii, an Avalon, and a Tacoma. All have been fantastic vehicles thus far with three of them over 200,000 miles, one 3/4 of the way there, one under 100K, and one with... 2800 miles on it lol.

Bummed me out when he said Mitsubishi makes crappy automatic transmissions and only manuals reach 200k. I guess all those old Mitsus I see on the road are all sticks?

Most automatic transmissions suck nowadays, and most CVTs suck MORE. The days of the old indestructible Ford C6 and Chrysler TorqueFlite transmissions are long gone. IMHO, they are the weak point of nearly every new vehicle since emissions regulations require them to be so complex. Anyone spending $40,000-$60,000 on a new Chrysler with a nine-speed automatic needs to have their head examined.

If you are really worried about making it to 200,000 miles in this car, spend a few hundred bucks now on a used CVT with 15-20k on it and keep it in your garage.

As to Scotty? Well, the video was 5:24 long. I made it through 4:46 seconds, and I consider him LUCKY.

Where the heck can I get a used spare CVT for a couple hundred dollars? Every transmission place I talked to was like used CVT? "$3500" easy.

In reality though I feel like I can hit 175k miles with this CVT. It feels smooth as hell and the Mitsu technician said tbe filters and fluid looked good. Boosted my confidence.

Check salvage yards. There are going to be a lot of Mirages that end up here because they are totaled so easily. I just posted THIS example a couple of weeks ago. You could have purchased the whole car for $575...including a low-mileage CVT. If you call a transmission shop and ask them, then they will tell you it's $3500.

This guy has been trying to part out this Mirage locally for 6 months. You could probably score this CVT for $200.

Dodge or ram or whatever they call the trucks now use Aisin transmissions in their trucks now. They know they cant make a good trans so they buy them from Toyota now lol. My Tundra has an Aisin 6spd, so does the ram 3500 with 1,000ft lbs. Not the exact same trans but similar.

3.0L V6 engine that Chrysler used in everything back in the very late 80's all the way up to 2000. My LeBaron is a bit special compared to the masses of them as it has a manual transmission in it which is ridiculously rare.

    Probably a 3.0l v6? Hopefully not an old 2.6 4cyl.
