Thread: OEM brake pads, are they semi metallic or ceramic?

  1. #11
Yeah, it's taking the aftermarket a while to come out with parts for these things. When did they start selling this style of Mirage(in North America), in 2012 or 2013? Supply and demand I guess. I wonder if they'll ever bring shocks and struts to North America? Cheaper wheel bearings and drums would be nice too.

Afaik, OE brake pads are made by Akebono (at least here in the Ph). They're ceramic, as identified with the copper filings you will find on them plus the greyish to white brake dust it produces.

You can easily identify an akebono pad by the printed or embossed "AKxxxx" or the word Akebono on the pad itself.

They made the brakes significantly larger on the 2017 model. My guess would be that the brakes prior to that were simply way undersized for the American market and the habits of American drivers.
    Simplify and add lightness.

I'm not sure what specific markets they have released the hatches with 251mm rotors, but none of the 2017-2019 Philippine spec came with 251mm including mine. Measured all 2018-2019 hatches from owners I know, they all came with 229mm rotors. What was true was the upgraded rear drums.

But the smaller brakes seemed fine on my '14 which was single occupant, no luggage 90% of the time.
