Mitsubishi sells a roof rack for the mirage. I got mine for about $300 and when I got looking at it its actually a rebranded thule roof rack.

Really? That's pretty cool. Can you post up some detailed pictures and/or links to the Mitsubishi & Thule product? Sorry if that's asking too much, but it's nice to document this for others to benefit from.

At $300.00US that’s actually not too bad of a price for a Thule rack.

I just use swimming pool noodles from the dollar store + some ratcheting straps. Also place a movers blanket underneath because the straps can make the car's paint rub away. But if I can carry that huge kayak and ON THE EXPRESSWAY then I think most people can haul their stuff real cheap like that and dont have any penalty of fuel economy compared to a REAL roof rack that is always on.

unlike the photo below i use 2 noodles cut in half so it makes 4 logs underneath the kayak

That's different for sure. I have one of those webber ladders that is 3 "ply" or whatever, so can get an 18' ladder in my Mirage with the trunk closed. I told the cashier that if this stunt doesn't work, I'm returning the ladder immediately. I love the handle in the middle.
