I have never purchased a car battery without having to return the old one to collect a core charge. That being said, wouldn’t it be safe to assume that parts are being reused anyway? I’m sure the battery companies want my old battery for a reason other than keeping it for a boat anchor.

I found some interesting news and information on Johnson Controls automotive battery. Looks like it's goodbye JCI and Hello Clarios.

The following is a press release by Clarios.

Clarios launches as a world leader in advanced energy storage solutions

Johnson Controls Power Solutions business becomes new entity, positioned to capitalize on growing global power demands

MILWAUKEE, May 1, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Clarios, formerly Johnson Controls Power Solutions, today launches as a new entity and world leader in advanced energy storage solutions. Clarios was acquired by Brookfield Business Partners and operates as a global energy storage business generating $8 billion in revenues with more than 16,000 employees, 56 facilities worldwide and 130 years of expertise. Clarios will build on its leading position in vehicle battery technologies – producing one-third of the automotive industry's total output per year – while more aggressively exploring ways to meet the fast-growing energy storage needs of tomorrow.

    ...

The company will maintain its current global manufacturing and operations footprint, including its corporate headquarters in Glendale, Wisconsin.
JCI made the Hands Free Module for the Bluetooth in the Mirage, and sold that operating unit off several years ago. Looks like JCI has spun off yet another group of companies.

Clarios lists the following brands under their ownership:

    OPTIMA Batteries, Inc.
    5757 N. Green Bay Ave.
    Milwaukee WI 53209

    LTH Batteries
    Mostly Mexico and Central America.

    Varta Battery
    Europe

    Heliar
    Brazil

    Delkor
    Delkor History
Delkor Co. Ltd was established in 1985, as a joint venture with GM, the biggest automotive company in US.
    ...
1986: Completes first production plant construction in Gumi, South Korea.

    MAC Battery
MAC Batteries does not list a location for their manufacturing or its headquarters. They only list distributors, and they are all in South America. Their History page says they were established in Argentina.
