Mine seems to be not as cool as I expect it to be, and the compressor seems to cycle a lot. If it ends up being low, is there a specific refrigerant I can use on my 2017?

Even on this car with it in recirculate you can feel the compressor kicking on and off often and can feel the temperature change out of the vents as it does so. It's almost like whatever sensor determines if the evap is going to freeze up is too sensitive and it's set to too high of a temperature.
One solution to your problem could be trade the Mirage in for an Outlander Sport.

    How does the A/C compare?

There is a yellow sticker on the inside edge of your hood that says "Air Conditioning". The type of refrigerant is listed on the yellow sticker. The print is quite small, but it lists the type. Just in case they are not all the same, I am not even going to mention what mine says.

Even if someone states what it is, I would check the yellow sticker inside your hood first. Hope that helps!

In the outlander sport? It's like a refrigerator in that thing. Rediculous amounts of cold. Exactly the way I like it. It has the automatic climate control too which is nice.

My old Mirage took standard r134a. But always check the vehicle to confirm what refrigerant it uses.

My 2017 sticker indicates the same r134a, but it's still good to check first!

Mine is a '15. This is where the sticker will be...on the bottom of the hood to the right of the latch. Note that the system only holds 9.5 ounces of refrigerant.

Thanks gents. Mine also shows 134a. I'll see if I can get a recharge kit for mine.

Before you recharge it, check the pressures and stuff. It might be working "as designed" and you don't want to overfill it. They hold barely any refrigerant.
