    Totaled at 120k

So I hit a couch on the freeway that fell of a truck In front of me I had no way of avoiding it and here's a picture of the damage. Insurance estimated
$2500, when I went to the shop there estimate was $8500 so my insurance deemed it a total loss. They said they can pay me $6800 to cover the rest of the loan so at the end of the day I ended up with $1800 in pocket I'm not happy I'll miss this car, but I will be getting a new one soon. $6800 for a 2017 base model with 120,000 miles seems pretty decent. Can you slap your original wheels back on and keep your aftermarket wheels/tires?

Yes I will be getting another mirage because right now my old tundra with a 4.7 v8 is taking it's place temporarily and it drinks fuel at 15mpg so at about 50k miles a year it is much cheaper for me to buy another mirage.

that is correct and i think its a decent payout but fortunately I sold my oem wheels and tires, I really regret it now because that was a great setup for handling and mpg in my opinion.

Sorry about your Mirage. I have a 2014 Mirage myself that I am very fond of. Word about fuel economy and your old Tundra, I had a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe rental a while back and drove about 900 kms or maybe 500 or more miles across Alberta on the freeway.

I couldn't figure out the cruise control, but according to the trip computer averaged 8.5 to 8.3 L to 100 kms. So some of the larger midsize SUVs these days like the Santa Fe, like with the right model (not a Jeep Wrangler), gets pretty decent fuel economy. Food for thought.

Not sure the mpg but I think that's over 30 miles a gallon, and nice ride and larger than the Mirage. My 5 speed manual Mirage gets 4.5 L to 100 kms driving sometimes in spring/ summer months.

Talk about bad luck. Glad you're ok.

Buy it when it goes to auction.

Never heard of anyone hitting a couch with a car before. But, I'm glad you're okay. The Mirage can be replaced. Looking forward to seeing your next set of wheels.

I don't have much experience with totaled vehicles. If you wanted to keep your aftermarket wheels & came up with adequate replacements, would the insurance company object?

Why is your insurance company paying for this? Isn't the person that lost the couch on the highway responsible? I realize you may have hit an uninsured couch, but isn't the other person responsible?

If a tree fell on your car or you hit a deer, your comprehensive insurance would cover it. Losing a couch on the highway doesn't seem like an "Act of God" event. I would have thought the other party would be responsible under their liability insurance?

A red Corvette hit my large black Lab. when I was in high school. It sliced the entire fiberglass side of the car off. I was dating the local veterinarian's daughter at the time. He charged me $5 to stitch up my dog. My parent's homeowner's insurance had to pay for the damage to the Corvette. FYI - That dog lived a full life, because he never went on the road ever again. You couldn't get him to walk across blacktop after that!
