Every car takes a beating that you drive winter and summer, so many weather conditions anywhere in Canada.
Agreed. And it seems for the last 20 years or so, most cars have really good engines/transmissions, so it is the body/rust that becomes the weak link. A friend's escort was retired because the shop said it had too much rust to really be safe, despite starting and running very well even after 15 years. I plan to keep mine as long as I can - hopefully my next car will be a mr. fusion powered hover-mobile.

I've done a lot of soft roading in mine. You'll here the first aero tray warn you of an obstacle before real damage.

    Take it slow, have fun.

What a car my Escort wagon was, custom exhaust and everything, you heard me coming actually got a noise complaint at my old apartment.
I cant think of a more reliable Ford ever than the Escort. Manual or auto those cars seemed to all hit past 200k miles. If Ford brought those back I would take a serious look at them.

To get more ground clearance you could try larger diameter tires - An extra inch or two can make a big difference.

They are hard to find but there are still a few for sale here and there.
