    Price check

Found a 2018 G4 an independent lot said they bought at auction. 1800 miles on odometer, owner said they put a new rear bumper cover on it. Thinking it was a repo, asking $8700. What's everyone's thoughts on that price, or why it was at auction with less than 2k miles...?

Google the VIN number and see where it shows up. You might be surprised.

Does it have a clean title or is it a salvage/rebuilt title? If it doesn't have a clean title I would walk away. That's not because salvage title cars are no good, but having a salvage title significantly impacts the value of the car...and $8700 would be too much to pay for a Mirage with a salvage title IMO.

If the car has always been in Ohio, you can do a free title search on it here:

A new 2019 G4 with a manual transmission is only about $3,000 more than that car...

My guess is that it was in an accident. If so it should be evident by how the body panels fit and line up.

I bet you could bargain it down to 7k OTD

That's the one. Owner said mistake in ad; not a clean title, but is rebuilt/salvage title. Still maintains it needed rear bumper cover and horizontal bar under cover dented. I looked it up on your link, looks like Geico refused to fix it.

Something isn't adding up. If this car got into a minor fender-bender and just needed a $1,000 rear bumper cover replacement, why was it considered a total loss by the insurance company?

Even if everything the guy said is true, this car has a few significant things going against it...

    • A car with a salvage title has no warranty.
    • This car's actual value has been significantly reduced. So if you buy it and total it, your insurance company is not going to reimburse you the full retail value of the car.
    • If you have to borrow money to buy it, you may find it difficult to finance a salvage title vehicle.

If this car was priced at 50% of retail, I'd consider it. Otherwise, I'd spend another $3K and get a new car with a warranty and a clean history. Somebody won't pay attention and will probably buy it thinking they are getting a deal.

A Mirage with rear subframe damage? That's a $4500 car. Max. I would not purchase for more than $3k myself. That's all insurance will value it at with that title. Plus these cars are weak enough. No telling how it will crumple or explode with you in it getting rear ended a second time.

Do not purchase. **** that ****.

Yeah, these things are fragile enough already without pre-bought damage. Appreciate everyone's input, I will not be purchasing this particular G4. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Shout out to Top Fuel for the info and VIN link.
