Thread: 2020 Mirage will carry on with minor changes (in U.S. / Canada)

  1. #61
Were the same true with a new-to-the-US Renault product sold by Mitsubishi, one which had already been around for a couple model years in other markets, I might give it a look.
If the Mirage is going to be based on the CMF-B Renault/Nissan platform, which seems likely, then we'll have the benefit of multiple years of production to look back at. It's already on sale as the Clio and Micra. The question is which engine will power it - Mitsu's or theirs.

It's true. You don't see many (serious) complaints about them, other than the infamous alignment issue. My 2014 is still going strong and getting top level mileage that makes me smile.

I was reading at a Micra forum not long ago and it seemed like there were a lot of threads about engine problems. More threads over than here. It appeared lots of people were having a variety of problems, some minor, some pretty bad, on what I consider low mileage cars. If the new Mirage has a Nissan/Renault powerplant I'll pass.

Same here. We've been going thru many drivability headaches with my wife's 2015 Chevy Equinox. Bought CPO, so still covered by powertrain warranty, but the unknowing of when the next time it will stall/no start is too stressful. My dad retired from GM, but this will be the last GM car for me. As soon as we get the 'nox back from dealer (2nd time in 6 weeks), I've convinced the wife to sell it and look at Honda/Toyota/Mitsubishi/Hyundai.

Man, what a shame. Where was it made?

Never mind , I found my answer. According to Wikipedia yours was made in Spring Hill, Tennessee. The current version is imported.

I don't fault assembly, its engineering and lack of parts quality (or too much overt planned obselesence). These 2.4L engines eat cam solenoids like candy, have timing chain issues, and excess oil consumption. Its too bad, because when it works, its actually a nice vehicle. But the tea leaves are pointing toward major repairs after warranty.

A friend of mine is replacing his wife's 2011 Equinox soon. It has 144,000 miles on it, but the engine was rebuilt under warranty (bad piston rings). He's replacing it because he can't find a spot to jack it up. Anywhere he put his jack it began caving in. It's that rusted out. Meanwhile, his 2003 Pontiac Vibe (Toyota Matrix) with 204,000 miles is doing just fine.

His favorite past vehicle was a Geo Metro. He's been asking about my Mirage for when it becomes time to replace his Vibe.

Wow. I thought Detroit had eliminated severe rusting. When I see a recent Detroit car with rust streaks and seam/edge rust everywhere you know it's never, ever been washed or rinsed off in a salty environment. Take the Caravan, since the refresh in 2008 rusted ones are rare, but when one is rusty, it's a real mess.

Your buddy will thank you after he gets his first Mirage. I guess a Mirage after a Geo is a natural progression?
