Just for the record - Scotty slammed GM products all the time. Research his thoughts on Honda's GDI systems, & you will find he does't think much of them. If you don't drive a Celica, Matrix, or Lexus (three cars parked in his driveway), you probably own an inferior product.

Scotty knows a lot about cars, but his opinion of things can be off. I would never take him that seriously, but I enjoy him just the same!

I watch him quite a bit. He slams Toyota's new stuff ALL THE TIME. He makes fun of the new Supra being a rebadged BMW. I do respect one thing about Scotty. He says what he thinks, & he doesn't care what anyone else thinks. He doesn't try to tell people what they want to hear. I admire that about him even when he is wrong!

Kinda like Mirage owners who don't put too much stock into the opinions of others.

Scotty Mirage. Rolls off the tongue.

I agree with you on that one!

If Scotty owned a Mirage, he would come around.

I find him to be an interesting character. I think he's sort of quirky. Then again, I think the Mirage is a little quirky. If the Mirage was a normal 4-cylinder 100-130 hp small car, I would be driving a Honda or Toyota instead!

I like the fact that the Mirage is a little unique!

The way I figure, winning the propaganda war online is vital. The more we renounce critics and debate naysayers, the more likely that buyer on the fence will purchase a Mirage. Thus keeping sales up and giving the opportunity for more aftermarket parts being available. Just a thought.

It sounds like Scotty has no actual hands-on experience with ANY of the cars he is gravely warning people to stay away from. He is just taking what other people have said, repackaging it, and reselling it with a bunch of his own stank on it.

This is why I like 'Regular Car Reviews' when I want to watch a car video. That guy drives the 'effin car, talks to it's owner about likes and dislikes, gives you a history lesson about the model, etc, etc.

What the fooking hell did this geezer have for breakfast. Over active and overly critical, devoid of of statistical facts. Anyone can make a critical video of just about anything, but back it up with facts. I don't know where the European Fiat 500 is made, I'd suggest Italy, if QC in Mexico is bad that will need addressing. The 500 here in the UK is very popular and well received. The original 500 was produced to get the Italians mobile. This hyper active substance abuser criticized the Mirage. Maybe he should leave the Mary Ann alone for a few days and try one. People have a choice when buying a car. He bemoans the lack of power, why? If people want one they'll try it and buy it if they like it.
I had to turn the volume right down with motormouth here, too frantic for a Friday morning viewing.
Oh, I can or rather everyone can be critical of any brand and any model simply because not every car is suitable for everyone.
Here's a more sober view of the Fiat 500.

Great points Chad! Scotty Kilmer's main point about Mitsubishi is that they burn oil when the get older because of cheap parts. Well I would put a question out there to everyone, especially the mechanics. If you were to look underneath the hood, would you find low quality belts, metals, plastics? I think the car's interior is definitely on the cheaper side, but like most Japanese brands, they dont put the money in amenities but in quality parts. Is Mitsubishi any different? I looked at the timing chain under the screw cap and it looked good quality to me. The belts looked fine too and my car is 5 years old!

It sounds like you have very little experience watching Scotty Kilmer, & there is nothing wrong with that.

If you watch Scotty consistently, you realize his knowledge of cars is quite amazing. Unlike the regular car critic that may focus on the worthless features found on cars, Scotty addresses the more important things about a car. I have the total opposite opinion about car critics. The worst cars I have every owned are ones that were highly recommended by car critics & Consumer Reports. I own one now. Thanks to a class-action lawsuit lost by Subaru, I have an new engine in my 2011 Forester. Will I buy another Subaru? No!

After watching Scotty work on a Mini Cooper, I would never buy one. Changing something as simple as belt is a nightmare. After watching him discuss the issues with GDI engines (while working his customer's Honda CRV), I would not buy a GDI engine. At the same time, I haven't gone out & bought an old Toyota Celica either.

His videos are a mix of everything. Some are focused on one topic. Some are him answering people questions about buying a used car. He's tries to give sound advice. His advice is based on a mechanic's perspective after working on cars for decades.

I've learned some good things from watching him. For example - Buying cheap Chinese radiators is not a problem. Electronic items or things like a MAF sensor, you should stick with OEM. Going cheap there isn't worth it. I pick up all sorts of good advice. His goal is to help people save money and not make a poor invest on a car. He's wrong about the Mirage somewhat, & I won't argue that, however. Then again, most car critics are wrong on that one.

Just the other day, someone was told by the dealer they needed a rear window motor on Honda. Scotty opened the rear door, pushed the rear window button down on the front door while he hit the rear door with his fist. The window instantly came down. He then cleaned the window seals & lubricated them with silicone. The rear window worked perfectly fine afterwards. How much money do you think he saved that customer? What do you think I am going to try if I have a stuck window on my car?

If I wanted to buy a battery booster, I know which one is the best value. He's tried them all, & he's not afraid to say what's junk or good. Some of his clips aren't even him talking. It's someone else sharing their unique vehicle & why they like it.

Do I agree with everything Scotty says? No! Has Renault made Nissan better? Has Fiat made Chrysler better? I don't think so, and he's good at pointing those things out. JATCO does make junk for Nissan. Why spend your money on stuff like that? If you really want the car regardless, he recommends leasing it. Overall, most of his advice is quite sound.

Most of all, I am impressed with his knowledge about the technology in new cars. For someone who has been a mechanic for 51 years, he has not let technology get past him. He's also not afraid to say what new technology is poor or really unproven.

I don't have much respect for most car critics. If anything, I think car critics are part of the problem we currently have. They focus so much on useless features & convince everyone how important they are. Does anyone really need a $100,000 Chevy pickup? Apparently, Chevy thinks so, because they are making one. Scotty has really ripped on that, too!

I find Scotty very refreshing in today's car world!

    tl;dr

Like the Mirage, Scotty is not for everyone. No need to apologize any more for him.
