Then a 1979 Austin Princess HLS. Superb ride but hated by Joe public, The UK government bought loads of them all in black (sinister) undercover police etc. Some mates of mine used to go to a car auction not too far from Heathrow Airport, the government could not sell a dodgy car so they went for peanuts, they were mainly 1.7 litre HL models.
Here's a picture of the HLS, distinguishable by trapezoidal headlights as opposed to twin headlights.

That knight head front emblem is really cool! If you parked that car in a big city here in the states, it probably would of been ripped off for some kid to wear with a chain! Mercedes emblems were popular targets as well.

The great thing about a list of cars - each car has a story to go with it. It's sort of fun to reflect back sometimes!
Done, thanks Mark. Just had a bit of a busy day.

Same here Dirk. The Wolseley emblem (top centre of radiator grill) was illuminated. When I bought mine it wasn't working so I scoured breakers yards to get a complete badge, bulb and wiring. So proud to have an illuminated Wolseley badge at night time.

Cadillac wreath and Crest was a very popular thing people would steal back in the 90's lots of hood ornaments were missing off 80's and 90's Cadillacs.

I just noticed you live in Paducah KY. I'm planning a road trip from MN to FL and I've mapped it out and Paducah KY is basically the half way point. So we may stop there. Is it a pretty safe place to stop off the fwy for a hotel?

    1992 Mitsubishi Expo LRV

I just read your article on your own site regarding the 92 Expo LRV. It is an interesting car. However, I totally agree with you regarding the 87 16 valve Scirocco. I had an 8 valve 84 1/2 Scirocco but never a 16 valve. I would have loved to have a MKI Scirocco even if it was a 1.6 or 1.7 liter with a 4 speed.

Almost all of my cars have been small ones, with the exception of my very first which was a behemoth land yacht (1964 Pontiac Catalina 4-dr hardtop 389 V8).

Here are just the subcompacts (that I can recall ) ...

    - six (6) 1st gen 1979-1984 VW Rabbits (ie. Golfs for itschad and others over the pond)
    - 1979 AMC Spirit (Gremlin, basically), given to me by a relative... probably the worst car I ever had.
    - 86 Toyota Tercel 4-dr hatch
    - five (5) 1991-2000 Chevrolet Metros/Pontiac Fireflies (still have 3 of them), not counting a couple of extra parts cars
    - 2004 Toyota Echo 2-dr hatch - probably the best screwed-together small car of the lot
    - 1990 Mazda Miata (still have, currently driving)

So far, very reliable. The only issue I've had is my '92 Pajero's thermostat went out on me the other week. Also, I need to replace the A/C compressor. I have had to do rear brakes on both the '91 and '92. But other than that, they've been great.
