    discolored visors

Just noticed my gray visors have a brown discoloration at the outside ends. I'll post a picture later, but anyone seen this before? Really strange, and it's not dirt, looks like something bled through the plastic. It's been extremely hot in the past couple of weeks, maybe related?

Sun damage?!? You can see what the visor internals look like in this post. There's a thin layer of foam underneath the outside covering of each visor. I'm not sure what would bleed through.

Thanks, after seeing what they are made of, I'm not too concerned. Talk about cheap! Oh well, they work.

I've seen a few used ones for sale that have similar discoloration. Not a big deal, just thought it was weird.

That is likely surface rust from the hardware underneath bleeding through. Were the visors ever wet? Was the inside of the car ever really wet?

Mine were just as discoloured in year one, now at the end of year five, it is worse.
I forwarded an official warantee application in the first year, but the Mitsubishi importer rejected it.

Cause is the mineral oil based lubricant on the hinge reacting with the PVC covering. They should have used silicone grease instead, but that's a little more expensive.

Interesting. Have you dissected one? If the problem is indeed a chemical reaction, I would think it would be more widespread?

EDIT: I think you are absolutely right. I went out to look at my visors, and I have a tiny bit of this discoloration as well. Wonder if Mitsubishi fixed this in later cars?
