    43 mpg

    Hello All,

Drove a bit faster on return trip from Bristol, Tn. to Michigan.
    Averaged about 70 mph.
Hand calculated mileage was roughly 43mpg.
    I will take it!
Car was loaded down with stuff, AC was on the whole way.
Spent $36.70 on way down. Spent just under $42.00 on the way back.
Have I mentioned I love this car?
I wish it had a 6th gear and and telescopic steering wheel.
    Happy camper.
Partially rust proofed car with Fluid Film spray while in Tennessee. Will complete rust proofing in the next 30 days or so.
Going to order some weathertech floor mats and Mitsu roof rack for my Kayak, until I can build me a camper trailer that weighs in at less than 450 pounds.

No telescoping wheel is the bane of my existence with my Mirage lol. Im 6ft and I cant rest my arm on top of the wheel without stretching a bit. My seat is all the way back to accommodate my legs, but I guess my arms arent long enough. I just steer with the bottom of the wheel which is ok. It really helps to install a center console armrest. I tried a wheel knob but took it off, it got tedious with it on. If only there was some better wheel extension that you just snapped on the wheel.

My summer tanks seem to average around 46-49 mpg.
My winter tanks seem to average around 41-44 mpg.
I don't try to do anything special to get those numbers.

When I've done extended interstate driving across Minnesota (70+ mph) & North Dakota (75+ mph) with the A/C on, I got around 42-43 mpg (car loaded with gear & luggage, but no extra passengers).

The Mirage sort of shines @ 55-65 mph in my opinion. It surely can chug along @ 70+ mph without issue, but it feels a little out of its element at those higher speeds.

Glad you are loving your Mirage! I must admit that I love driving mine, too. The Subaru only comes out when I need to do something the Mirage can't handle. Most of that has been trailer stuff.

Did you get that mileage with the cruise control on?

Used cruise control on second half of trip, roughly from Cincinnati to Pontiac, Mich.
Used the right foot from Bristol, Tn. to Cincinnati.
Drove a total of 667 miles.

Enjoy the mpg now before you add the roof rack.

Adding a roof rack & kayak to the top of any vehicle would kill its mpg rating. The joy of an add on roof rack is you can haul things you normally can't at times & take it off when you don't need it.

I've owned vehicles with permanent roof racks (side bars with cross bars). I would rather have the add on ones that are only added/used when needed.

Will be taking roof rack off for long trips, unless they are fishing trips.
My everyday commute is in the city at speeds of 40-45 mph.
I can tolerate losing a little bit of mpg for the ability to throw my kayak on the rack and go!

My commute is only 12 miles one way, so will prob incur small mpg penalty.

    Mark,

Do you know what tow rating is listed as for the mirage in Canada or Europe.
Canadian dealership salesman would no commit to specification. Probably for liability reasons?
