CarMD reliability & repair cost report: Mitsubishi & Mirage do well

CarMD does an annual report based on reliability and repair costs related to problems that trigger a "check engine light" (CEL).

The CarMD® Vehicle Health Index™ reports on the most common check engine light-related problems, repairs and associated costs. Published annually since 2011, this Index provides year-over-year car repair data.
Of 100 vehicles ranked from best (lowest) to worst (highest) repair costs for CEL issues, the Mirage sits at #5:

And the brands least likely to have a CEL come on:

    For this data...

we have analyzed the vehicle data and health of more than 5.6 million in-use vehicles manufactured from 1996 to 2018 reporting check engine health between Oct. 1, 2017 and Sept. 30, 2018.

Reinforces what we owners of the Mirage experience. Our little cars have very few operational issues. Does it have flaws, yes. But unreliability is not one of them.

That's a pretty good return on investment if you ask me. Not too shabby at all.

    Yay! We were INCLUDED!

Has anyone here ever had a CEL before?? I had a self-induced CEL while doing a compression test. I know there was one due to an accident. But I think I have only heard of one or maybe two others here?

The Mirage is very simple, not much to it. Consider other cars notorious for reliablility: Toyota Tundra trucks, Corolla's (hence the top of the list) but Cadillac I disagree. All those gizmos and electro wizardry leads to techno failure time and time again.

That's an interesting point. Have you had to work on one?

Keep in mind this survey was related just to failures that would be noticed by the car's OBD-II system. IE - check engine light problems.

No ha just anecdotally from talking to a few owners, but like anything maintenance is key.

For general reliability you're pretty safe with the "less is more" rule- less to go wrong the less complicated. Prolly too tight an engine bay to work on a modern Cadillac anyway, compared to the Mirage.

Never a good sign for low repairs & good reliability with that engine light on, though depending on the issue you can drive with it on. On a new car yikes though!

The only problem I ever had was the airbag light on the passenger side but after I brought the vehicle to the Dealer for the airbag-software recall I never saw the light again after that.
