alternator removal and reinstallation difficulty 2/5

also I replaced the serpentine belt with the RockAuto replacement
Any theories on why this may have happened? Could an overly tightened serpentine belt have caused this?

I am not trying to drag out this thread, & I am glad you got it fixed. Just wondering what your thoughts are on all this now that it is fixed?

I realize mechanical things break sometime! It comes with owning stuff!

That is one of the primary causes of accessory pulley/bearing failures, yes.

Im just glad it was a bearing and not the alternator, those are like $800 on Mitsuparts.

my thoughts on what caused that are probably driving it on some of the worst mountain roads. driving from Denver to the Pacific Ocean in northern Oregon and then driving back to Denver earlier this year. the old belt was hold on much tighter than I had to tighten the new belt

so in conclusion my thoughts are that bumpy roads and the OEM belt being too tight took out a faulty bearing.

That's what I would have guessed, but I thought I would ask.

Rebuilding an alternator for about $80 is also good information. That's 1/10th the cost of buying a new one!

Mitsubishi over pricing their parts doesn't do much for their image. All car companies seem to do that, however. Short term greed that somewhat hurts long term profits in my opinion. Parts being unavailable or being very expensive doesn't promote return customers, & I have sense that complaint a few times from Mirage owners. Thankfully, the Mirage is fairly reliable overall!

I modified the thread title to indicate the failure, making future searches easier. Also included the solution in the first post.

    Thanks benwerks.
