FYI, the Micra and Mirage are similarly tall cars, but as Nickels points out, the stock tires/suspension geometry/tuning is vastly better in the Micra.

I like the little bit of lift off oversteer in the Micra. Once I start tuning suspension, I'm going to ramp that up a bit. Really stiffen the rear. Front wheel drive with a loose rear end shaves huge time off in autoX.

Less time wasted turning the steering wheel!

My Yaris handles and performs much better than my Mirage. But I'd bet that with some additional suspension work (e.g. coilovers), the Mirage would be close to the handling characteristics. Engine wise, however, the Yaris is quite a bit zippier.

Compared to what? I know you guys have cars in NZ that we don't here in the US, so I would be interested to know what you are comparing it against.
