Thread: What fails inside the cvt?

    What fails inside the cvt?

Coming soon.........A non owners uneducated tear down showing what happened. Is higher octane fuel the cause of these failures or is the lack of it a factor??????? Or maybe not rotating hubcaps often enough? Just because I'm making this up doesn't mean I'm wrong......

I'll fix this thread up sometime this weekend!

    1:Remove transmission.
    2:Remove torque converter
3:Remove bolts around bell-housing.Basically every bolt with a 12mm head.
    Attachment 15272
4:Once all the bolts are removed pry the case apart. There are 2 notches that look like they're made for this. One in this pic behind the oil cooler and another in the second last pic. There are also 2 locating pins.
    Attachment 15273
5:After some swearing the cover should be off. Now remove the oil pump gears. There is a c-clip that has to be spread open(yellow) while pulling up on the gear. The other gear just pulls up. Undo the bolts circled in green. The 4 on the rh first then lift the tin plate out of the way.
NOTE: there is a small seal at one of the bolt holes just above the output shaft(large shaft lh rear lower of pic)that you don't want to lose.

You are my hero. The more I read, the more I respect your ability to get sarcasm across online.

That's a rare talent my friend.

I suspect that he has already read this and jumped off of the nearest, tallest cliff!

A friend and coworker bought a brand new 2016 Nissan Sentra. It now has 66,000 miles on it, and GUESS WHAT FAILED ON HIM YESTERDAY?

I will give you three guesses, but you will only need one. Boy, is he pissed.

Step back from that ledge, Dirk! The 2016 Sentra transmission isn't a CVT7; looks like it's a JFO11E. Also, do we know if above coworker did any drain and fills over those 66,000 miles? If we've learned anything, it's that these fragile transmissions need fluid/filter changes to get any kind of longevity.

Ok this were it gets confusing. That JF011E part number, you got from wikipedia right? Well, it might be wrong. I posted a vid a few days back from utube demonstrating how to add an upgraded CVT cooler to your system. The engineer demonstrating the process confirmed that the 2013 Sentra uses the CVT7. 2013 Sentras were rated the most likely to break down.

Will Nissan cover it? Or at least pay half? An even bigger question. Will Mitsubishi offer extended CVT warranties like Nissan did?
