Maybe the golfer was just trying to play thru?

Crazy. No mention of the speed of the Mirage here, other than noting the posted 55 mph speed limit. I suspect the car turned hard to the right trying to avoid the cart, flipping at least once. It landed on the right rear corner...kinking the very flimsy rear beam axle...before rolling again and settling on it's roof.

There is no sturdy strut holding the rear wheel on with these cars. Just a wheel attached to an L-shaped piece of steel.

Given the Mirage's narrow track, tiny tires, relatively tall body, and mushy suspension, I have always suspected that heeling one hard-over at anything approaching freeway speed will likely result in a rollover crash.

They called it a head on collision, and it "ejected" the golf cart driver to his demise, so some kind of contact happened. But yeah, I agree, a hard-over panic turn at speed would likely roll a Mirage hatch. Or maybe the front end of the golf cart launched the Mirage "Dukes of Hazzard" style.

And despite the rollover and damage, and multiple deployed airbags, the Mirage driver survived.

There was obviously contact if the guy in the cart didn't make it. I just believe a hard turn was attempted by the Mirage driver, which caused the car to flip.

We really are dead if we wreck our cars!
A large vehicle could easily flip as well. The top of the golf cart would sheer off easily and the actual cart would become a wedge to launch the high center of gravity vehicle over.
