Well, the top picture is upside down. Damnit.... The wire is broken just to the drivers side of the valve cover. You can see the rubber grommet on the bottom.

And the second pic, you can see the wire has been broken for a while and arcing out.

The wiring in this car scares me. I cringe every time I unplug something or touch the wiring harness. Could they have used a smaller gauge wire?!?

I've worked on lot's of Jag's, bmw and Mercedes that also use tiny ass wire too. I wonder why they all have electrical problems after 10 years?
This one broke in a weird spot, and it's only got 200k. It's an odd one.

You know, I didn't even check. I just finished it up this morning right when the driver showed up. Light was out so I let him take it.
I just checked the voltage via gps and it does seem to on par with the rest of the fleet now. Charging around 14.4-14.5 while driving. I'll check it with a meter if I remember next oil change.

As far as I can tell It's been overcharging slightly for quite a while. This might explain going through light bulbs like crazy since they bought the car.

I wonder if Steve has ever checked his charging voltage? Might have a similar hidden problem?
I'll post how many bulb changes I've have recorded later.

We're going threw the exact same thing right now. Is the car running ok now or is it going thru bulbs like crazy?

It didn't seem to change much. I've replaced both headlights 3 times in the last year. They blow within weeks, sometimes days of each other like clock work. I would have to say it's just the car, it's gone through tail and headlight bulbs more than any other car ever since new.

That sucks. Your thread on this rocked. We are sitting in the dealership trying to figure this out right now. Her car only has 44k miles on it. I dont know whats worse having to replace an alternator or bulbs all the time. You said tail light bulbs, head light bulbs, turn signal bulbs, tail light bulbs?

I meant the battery light went out. I've never had to replace a Mirage alternator.
