Winter is coming... time to deal with rust!

** Obligatory not a Mirage but the Micra forum is dead but I own both so whatever comment **

Marvin sees an awful lot of gravel, and after last nights frost I decided it was time to do a bit of touch up paint work.

Heres a few befores and an after. Scuff sanded, primed, 3 coats of paint applied by brush. No idea what paint I used, but it was a horror to clean up and smelled like high hell, so I at least know it was a half decent rust coat enamel.

In the before photos, some of what you see is our red clay, but the small "pots" are all the starts of rust where rocks have chipped the factory coat.

I'm willing to bet that... 2 photos turn out sideways.
Oh wow none of them did!!!

So the sway and torsion beam shot is way out of focus, my bad. I tried. The inside lip (facing forward) was pretty rough looking

I take my Mirage to Krown rust control every year.

The friendly people at Krown tell me that the middle of summer is actually the good time to get the protection spray done. My undercarriage looks pretty mint, 5 and a half years after buying my Mirage.

Yeah, doesnt matter what I do. Dragging the thing down rotted out clay roads, nothing would last. Apparently not even the paint hehehe.

I think I mentioned to you already my Mirage is the same colour as your Micra. Looks sharp. I went for grey because I am on gravel roads myself, I would go brown if they made a brown Mirage or Micra.

I saw you fit a lot of firewood into your Mirca. Well the other weekend I fit an 8' 6 x 4 boards of wood... so that's 8 feet long into my Mirage, trunk closed. I used towels at the front of the boards to avoid scratching my dash.

I wouldn't do that again, but shows small cars can carry almost 8 foot long loads, trunk closed.

Hoping to minimize rust, I sprayed the heck out of the underside and inside of my doors, hood and hatch with cosmolline spray. Two cans were more than enough for my Mirage. I like the amber color because it shows me my coverage area and the smell is definitely interesting. It smells like aerosol and candle wax.
