    Parking pawl question ....

Just read Fummins write up on the CVT7, showing the extremely heavy duty parking pawl. But curious, I've heard newer cars will not engage the pawl unless they are stopped. Is that true? I'll bet Fummins knows
Update: I apparently asked this same question last year, my apologies. I'm old and confused.

Me too, I use the 'archives' on the web a lot.
I really was just wondering. But knowing how the pawl is made (how it ratchets), I doubt anything could be damaged from a slight movement to park.
I think I only know of one vehicle (not mine), that had a park pawl problem, and it was an abused old 1970's truck.

It's the metal thing that drops into a slot and keeps your car's engine from moving the transmission shaft when parked. Guess that's the best way to describe it. It's inside the transmission.
