I ran into a similar Gomer "rouge cou" type mechanic at a Mits dealer local to me. Told me I needed nitrogen in my tires. Uh huh.

And they are like 10-12.00 if I recall on rock auto.
It was my girl's G4. I do the schedule maintenance on her vehicle, I thought I could trust a Mitsubishi dealership to put in a filter when I got my oil changes there? I guess Ill just check for it now like I do the CVT oil.

Personally, I am not convinced OEM filters are always superior & warrant the extra cost.

Engine & cabin air filters are very easy to check & change. A quality Wix engine air filter is about $16 @ RockAuto.com. I tend to buy their cheap $5-6 cabin air filters, too. If you buy a group of filters at one time, you'll save some on shipping costs. If I owned two Mirages, I would buy 2 engine air filters and 4 cabin air filters @ a time.

Everyone's driving conditions are different, but I tend to change engine air filters around 30,000 mile intervals I am near 29,000 miles on my Mirage, & I will be changing my air filters soon. I check my engine air filter every 10,000 miles. If it didn't look good, I would change it earlier than every 30,000 miles.

I change the cabin air filters about every 15,000 miles. The cabin air filters are somewhat small on the Mirage. Some may change them more often?

There's nothing wrong with dealerships making suggestions. Likewise, there's nothing wrong with saying "NO THANKS"!
