    P0456 Service Engine code

Hey gang! I just got my 2014 Mirage running again after 6 months of sitting outside. New battery and I had to replace the front rotors and brake pads. The rotors had almost completely rotted away on the inside! Anyhow after about 10 miles of driving the "Service engine soon" light came on. I had already reset the "wrench" icon for the oil change. My OBDII Elm 327 scanner reports code P0456 which is EVAP system- very small leak detected. Anyone know the most likely culprit? I have reset the errors and the light is out for now. Thanks in advance! 23,600 miles on this car.

    Wow.

Those rotors look terrible. Even if I tossed a pair of rotors out in my back yard for 5 years, I wouldn't expect them to look that bad!

    +1

Maybe put a little Vaseline on the mating surface of the cap to make sure it's sealing properly.

How in the hell are those rotors so damaged after sitting outside for 6 months?

After a rain, my rotors form surface rust. So long as the car is driven on a regular basis, that surface rust is abraded away down to smooth metal. If not, it will continue to attack the rotor to form pits and worse.

The car has been driven very irregularly for the past 4 years! Been down with a chronic illness not fun. The car is over 5 years old with only 23,600 miles on it. I will try lubing the gas cap tomorrow, thank you!

Hey Don, not sure where you are in Ohio but there are several members from here. Let us know if you need a hand.

You're one of the early board members here. It's early adopters like you who took a risk on these little cars and shared their thoughts and experiences that helped the rest of us decide to buy one, despite what the Automotive Press says about the Mirage.
