Just recently I was annoyed at my mileage and set out to improve it. On flat Ontario roads over a trip of about 50kms, with winter tires, and ZERO hypermiling techniques I got 70 mpg, 24.7km/l. or 4.0/100km.

I really wish I knew! I'm attributing the high mileage to passing under the Welland Canal twice. Some mystic forces were hard at work for me. In reality, the conditions were perfect, about 68F, cool night air, zero traffic so I could choose my pace without getting run over. It was a run that I needed for more than testing my Mirage for mpg numbers. I felt great after the run. My little car came through like a champ.

70 British MPG, methinks, ol' chap?
4.0 L/100 km = 59 MPG US = 70 MPG UK.

Haha - not in my Mirage! There is no physical steering lock, period. The last car I had with no steering lock was my first car - a 1964 Pontiac Catalina. From an era when there was no property crime! No shifter lock either (and it was an automatic).
That means if you leave your manual Mirage unlocked, anybody could roll it away while steering to make a clean getaway.

Fummins (12-02-2019)
^ 165 km round trip this weekend.
-10 C (14 F) start, -5 C by mid-day. Mostly on back roads with next to no traffic, flat-ish terrain, 80 km/h = 50 mph limit. Dry conditions, light wind @ ~10 km/h.
My average cruising speed was around the limit, OK, mostly a little bit less, especially before the drivetrain warmed up. (Need a block heater!) Coolant temp dropped down to about 90F while parked before the return leg.
Car has an impressive amount of cardboard & coroplast taped/zip tied to it right now. Otherwise, those numbers wouldn't have happened in these temperatures.
