Johnny - Thanks for sharing your 2nd Mirage ES review. Once again, you did a nice job! Honest, sincere owners of the Mirage are the best critics of this car for sure.
Question for you: Is this the first time you changed your manual transmission fluid, or the second time?
Schedule 1 indicates - Change manual transaxle/transmission oil every 30,000 miles.
Schedule 2 indicates - Check manual transaxle/transmission oil level and condition every 30,000 miles. (No mention of changing it.)
Changing manual transmission fluid every 30,000 miles seems a bit excessive, but not clearly stating it needs to be changed in schedule 2 is a bit odd, too. My Mirage is at 29,000 miles, & I am planning to change my manual transmission oil @ 30,000 miles. Since it's so simple to do, I thought that I would see how it looks & decide what to do in the future. I don't mind changing it every 30,000 miles, but I've never done that on any other manual vehicle that I have owned.
I figured 30K was way too soon and opted for a 60K service. Ordered Redline 75W80 GL4 for it on Amazon. So far the shifting has actually been getting smoother. For the hell of it, I decided to ad .3 quarts of Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer with 3 quarts of the usual 0w20 engine oil this oil change. The last two cold engine starts there has been no engine clatter so far on cold start. We will see how long this works.
