    Exhaust longevity

How is everyone's exhaust systems holding up? Anyone have to replace muffler or exhaust pipe yet?

I'm hoping the tiny system heats up fast enough to burn off moisture. Is the mirage system stainless?

I'm guessing driving style will factor in. Short drives where it doesn't burn off moisture typically rust out quicker than highway drivers. And location (i.e. snow belt vs. Deep south). Road salt, chemicals, etc. Just curious what others experience has been.

My 2014 has lived in salt every year of its life and the only issue I've had is an annoying squeak during idle. It does have surface rust on it, but it is stainless.

Most exhaust pipe and muffler rot occurs from the inside out, with exhaust gases combining with water vapor to create a weak sulfuric acid. With today's ultra low sulfur fuels it isn't as much of a problem. I expect my exhaust to last the life of the car. Of course, Rust Belt cars can still corrode from the outside in.

To my knowlege, nobody has done any exhaust work yet?

If the Mirage has a stainless exhaust, it must be a really low grade of stainless. I think my exhaust system had surface rust forming on it before I got the car off of the dealer's lot.

Hopefully it will hold up. I haven't replaced an exhaust system on any modern car because the steel quality is so much better. My '99 Eclipse with 180,000 miles still has its original exhaust and it doesn't look that bad for being 20 years old.

Interesting link about exhaust steel: What type of metal should I choose for exhaust parts?

I haven't looked under it yet I'm only afraid of the extremely rusted nuts and bolts lol. Been driving mine through the saltiest roads but Ive also washed mine at least once a week or once every other week when it snows. Maybe I should take a look at the exhaust system when i do my oil change soon.

Only issues I've seen so far are a heat shield on the pipe between the 2 cat's came loose on a few cars. But they're caked in mud and never get washed properly. Otherwise no rust through on any cars here.

That's not surprising considering everything else about our little bombs is pretty darn good. Exhaust systems are something I have a real hard time opening up my wallet for. They seem like such a large expense for what are really just extremely cheap components.
