    First oil change

    Hello All,

Dealership did first oil change on the 12th. Had just shy of 5000 miles.
Wanted to do it around 3000, but could not get into the dealership because of my work schedule.
No more 3 second rattle at startup. Service oil filter must have decent anti-drainback valve. Will see if it performs the same as the miles go by. Plan to change every 5000
First three oil changes are free. Dealership uses a 0W-20 not full synthetic.
Rotated tires. 8/32 tread depth(I believe) Wear is even. I run 35-36 psi.
Been doing work commute with cargo rack and kayak cradles on. Averaging around 42 mpg.
Will be taking rack and cradles off in a couple of weeks for winter.
    Love this car.
Hope to complete rustproofing with fluid film and install factory foglights in the next few weeks.

Synthetic blend? Though I don't think I've ever seen one.

Check the oil level. I had a dealership change the oil and my startup rattlee stopped, too. Of course it was overfilled by more than a quart...

    That is good advice.
I have always changed my own oil. The few times over the years I have let someone else change it, I always check.
    Including this time.
    They were spot on.
I will say though, not the easiest dipstick to read, although I have seen worse.
I have been thinking about filing a cross hatch pattern between the low and high marks.

It's good to hear that you are still loving your Mirage!

I like to do my own oil changes, but I would take advantage of 3 free ones, too! I believe White Bear may have offered one, but I'm not doing 8 hours of driving (there & back) for an oil change!

I've noticed 0W-20 synthetic blends are becoming more available (more common).

    https://www.amazon.com/Havoline-Mile.../dp/B073WQLTCV

Just a couple common examples listed above.

Given the history I am seeing for the Mirage, I think any oil (conventional, synthetic blend, full synthetic) changed every 5,000 miles is perfectly fine.

I've been using Mobil 1, but I see myself going with Super Tech 0W20 Full Synthetic in the near future & sticking with it. At $14.37 (5 quart jug), it's cheaper than most conventional & synthetic blend oils.

Since I like to do 5,000 miles oil changes, I don't see the need to buy the most expensive oil & filter on the market. I do believe some oil filters are better than others, however. I wouldn't skimp totally on those. Just sharing my preferences, too!

A person should do what they feel is best for their Mirage.
