Thread: Fancy Metro (Mirage #1) :: 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage SE (Garage entry)

  1. General Information
    Fancy Metro (Mirage #1)
    2014
    Mitsubishi
    Mirage SE
    silver
    manual

"AS-IS special" I got at a North Toronto Toyota dealer with 145,000 km on the clock (90k miles).

Came with a clean Carproof report, service history from the Mitsu dealer next door (one owner, relatively well maintained).

It's so much nicer to drive than the 2000 Metro winter beater it replaces!

Other nicknames considered: Lifestyle Inflation, Metro DeVille, Silver Poupon, Mirage #1 of N

New, this car cost $15,898 + $1450 mandatory freight charge = $17,348. With taxes: $19,603. Doesn't include unknown dealer charges. Basically, $20k out the door.

    Details

Whoopsie-daisy on the front left corner contributed to its low, low price. Several other misc scuffs & chips in the paint around the car.

So, so dirty. The Toyota dealer didn't even bother vacuuming it.

    •

Busted antenna, so the radio reception isn't very good right now.

    •

Looks like it still has the original battery.

    •

    Cadillac soft! So soft.

    •

Came with Dunlop WinterMaxx snow tires 165/65r14 size and lots of tread. Looks like the wheels have never been cleaned - the finish is stained from all the brake dust!

Darin, this place I stumbled on may be of some use; www.partify.ca. it looks like they specialize in fenders and front covers.

    Overkill headlight housing repair

Wally: if you've got an old boat, you've got epoxy on hand, right?

I liked the idea of the magic plastic melting powder glue, but decided to use stuff already here.

I made up a some wee sheet metal brackets & splice plates, and screwed them into the plastic to hold the busted bits in place. Then I just gooped some epoxy over everything & shot it flat black.

It seemed to work just fine, if a bit ugly (but you can only really see the smaller, upper mount).

    getting nekkid

....annnnnnnnnnndd... since I already had the bumper and headlight off, I decided last evening to pull the FUBARed front quarter.

I wasn't planning to do any cosmetic work until spring, but it's warmed up to above freezing recently, so make hay while the sun shines? (It's actually kinda rainy...)

Wasn't too hard to remove, except I'm noticing the mounting brackets on this car are very lightweight and very prone to twisting/deforming when breaking bolts free (all 10 mm and plastic fasteners for this panel).

    Panel beating adventure to come!

I spent an hour or 2 on it, mostly using wooden kitchen utensils and my hands. The metal is so thin, it's pretty easy to work.

I made a couple of rookie mistakes along the lines of "I think I'll just lightly tap here with a hammer..." Bad idea! Never directly hit the panel!

It's not perfect (looks better in the pic than in real life) but I'm pleased with the results. Just have to put it all back together now.

Hey, does your car have chrome front inner door handles and black rear ones? I just noticed mine is like that. I almost feel ripped off, but not really.

Yup. Them's the cheap seats! What's really funny is the power front windows but manual rear cranks on the base model.
