Mitsubishi will counter that Honda, Toyota, etc. also too sell stripped down models, without the typical safety features, in developing countries. In order to save money for both Mitsubishi and their 3rd world consumers. India and SE Asia both, drive cars with low safety ratings, not just latin America and their seems to be no issue.
I dont know how they explain away the weak body frame? Shocking because Mitsu has always worked magic their design teams IMO, blending low cost materials into a good finishes product.

I rode with a guy who always carried a few spark plug chunks with him. We had an incident one day on a major highway with a car driver who was impaired, a moron, road raging, all the above, and I saw firsthand how easily the tempered side glass in a car shattered.
I guess spark plug ceramic is ideal as there's certainly pieces of it on the highways. Who's to say it wasn't kicked up by another car?
