New Boss audio BV765B Radio Causing Errors

    Hello,

I have a 2018 Mirage G4 automatic that I am attempting to upgrade to an aftermarket radio, amp and sub. The radio I want to install is a Boss audio BV765B. When I installed everything, the system works fine, only issue is that the cars service engine soon light comes on and the car won't go into gear. I checked the code that came up, saying it was a transmission sensor error. I did not connect the backup camera or the parking brake wire to enable the DVD/media. I'm thinking that it has to do with the backup camera not being connected. Thoughts?

    Thanks in advance.

You are most likely correct. Not having the rear camera enabled will cause errors unless you have access to reprogram ETACS to turn the backup camera function off.

Thanks for the quick response! So how would I connect the factory BU cam into the new head unit? I have a new BU cam that came with the new head unit. Would installing that correct the issue?

As long as you use the existing power source for the OEM backup camera it shouldn't matter what flavor of camera, just that there is one being powered. That's the most logical solution unless part of the OEM sound system reports back to the canbus network that the camera is installed and working.

I'm not looking for 150+ DB sound levels (I can have those marshalling a Lear 26 if so desired) but I do want perhaps 110-120 DB of clean sound. I'm not looking to spend a fortune either.

Back in the day I easily had 120 DB in my home with two x Bryston 4B power amps, Cerwin Vega speakers (101DB/1W@1M, they were the best home audio speakers I've ever owned, or heard for that matter) and I forget what preamp/tuner I had. It was loaded with LEDs, unusual for the mid 80's.

I'm more than willing to add sound deadener and insulation (the benefits go far beyond just audio, increased fuel mileage anyone? not needing the compressor nearly as much on a hot summer day.) i know new speakers are in order.

BUT, here's the catch. I want to stick with the Mirage Apple/Android head. I doubt it has much power but that's where an amp comes in, right?

Hello Bmcki and welcome to the forum.

I'm not familiar with a 2018 system but my 2015 basic audio system with Bluetooth won't allow new device pairing while the vehicle is underway. It's a safety feature, and I think it's a smart one that saves loads of liability problems.

That indicates to me that there is an interface between the audio/Bluetooth system(s) and the vehicle ETACS. I'm left to wonder that if you removed your OE radio you have defeated a safety feature which is causing your error indication?

    Just a guess.

I'm going to test a couple of things. I reinstalled the factory radio, and the issue went away. I'm going to try unplugging the BU camera input to the radio and see if the issue returns, if so, then it will need a canbus interface to communicate with the car.

    Well that answers that.

Bmcki I'm curious - what's wrong with your factory radio that you are replacing it? Or are you just looking for something different?

These little cars are funny the way the ETACS and other processors all communicate with each other. It makes modification difficult.

You can still use the amp & sub, right?

Nothing is wrong with the radio, it's actually not bad, but adding an amp and sub are a pain. I may just go in that direction, and be done with it. A line output converter is fairly inexpensive(about $25) they're just a pain to try to wire up.
