Dec 1 2019 Ice storm system

Are you in the affected storm area? How did your winter tires perform?

Today was pretty rough, a local girl was killed so they closed the main highway here, called the Queen Elizabeth Way. The roads were more ice than slush. There was a definite base of ice then the slushy junk on top. The temps here hovered around the freezing mark all day.

My winter tires are Walmart Weathertech, made by Nexen and are 175R65-14. I had no problems going anywhere including up some very steep grades travelling up the Niagara Escarpment. My traction control hardly came on at all, only when I floored it just to see.

My Mirage sat parked all day today and all day yesterday. I am near grand bend, and we got pounded with sleet. No branches down, so that's good.

I will look into those winter tires that you have. I am running Bridgestone all seasons.

I don't think Walmart Weathtertech tires are offered in the States, but several 175/65r14 snow tire options exist.

The 165/65r14 size sort of limits your choices to Dunlop Winter Maxx WM02 or Nokian Nordman 7 here, unless you find some older leftover tires from the past.

I still hope to try the 165/65r14 Vredestein Quatrac 5 all-season tires in the snow sometime in the future (maybe next year?).

We had freezing rain all day today. Car performed mediocre. Slushy conditions, so nobody fared well. Not bad though, I kept to 100km/h on the ice.
