Gas Gauge throwing the letter P after blinking for a while

When I first bought my Mirage, I drove it about a thousand or two miles home. Along the way, my gas gauge once showed the letter 'P', miles after the gauge showed no more bars and was blinking. What does the "P" stand for?

Do you have a photo of what you mean? the letter shown in the display is the gear selected. P is for Park, D for drive, R for Reverse...

I do not have a picture. I have a manual transmission, so I don't look for P, D, R in my instrument panel.

Hmmm...my 5-speed is constantly running on fumes and I don't recall ever seeing that.

coolflippers - When you're driving your 5-speed down the road, you should take it out of Park!
