OR... here's an idea! You could have contacted an admin instead of being so dramatic?

Google made unilateral changes to its ad platform recently. Apparently the changes are ongoing.

I had set up ad exclusions for registered members that reduced the number of ads shown, but that apparently was over-ridden with Google's changes. I'm still trying to figure out what's affected, and I hadn't checked the mobile version.

I can turn off ads entirely for members, and will probably do that. We do rely on the small amount of income ads generate.

Maybe we should invite members who value the forum to make voluntary donations instead? I hate asking for support, but maybe the "PBS" approach would be better.

The forum is unfortunately riddled with ads, in particular within the posts themselves. Its certainly gotten worse over time, and I fully understand it pisses people off to the point they will leave...

I left when my wife took the car, came back when it was my daily.

And I'm not gone, just not surfing to kill time at work as much anymore.

That would work for me, honestly. Way preferred. This is my favourite time waster.

Didnt really think I went for drama. Seemed like a calm post to me.

^ Aw, I was just teasing.

    ---

FYI: I have reverted to Google's old ad settings. Within an hour or so, things should be similar to the way they used to be from day 1.

Their new, supposedly "smarter" automatic approach increased the size & number of ads from what I saw. I honestly have no problem with serving a pile of ads to visitors, but we lost the ability to dial down the ads for registered members vs. visitors. The new approach put all aspects of ad placement/size/frequency in Google's hands. And I'm guessing their algorithm wasn't good at detecting whether it was pissing people off or not.
