Nissan: When you make a exotic car no one wants.

In a telling example of how awry things are at Nissan they are still trying to get sell 50 (that’s right, not 500 but fifty) of their special edition GT-R50. Only fifty are to be made but it’s been available to order for a year and Nissan still has not sold all 50. Production is supposed to begin early next year but with Nissan’s current cash crunch what are the odds this will actually happen? Nissan pricing is absolutely insane for this car (over $1,000,000.00 USD) which I’m sure has been a huge factor. With all of the ultra high performance available these days Nissan apparently thought bilking 50 unaware wealthy bonobos was a sound business plan. Here’s the link.

I know I rant about Nissan and I don’t think they’re the worst vehicles on the market by any means. My problem is that Nissan has been portrayed as the “savior” of Mitsubishi but the truth is really the opposite.

I feel like anyone who owns that car, just has "F** You" money. Even a loaded 2020 Nismo GTR will be $220,000 (after everything). It's definitely not made for our market lol But it's definitely made for those who have "F*** You" money.

What do I think of it? I think it looks really crappy. Pretty much, Nissan gave the car to a European designer to design how a European 'exotic' GTR would look...and, for me, it looks out of place. Imagine Subaru and Mitsubishi collaborating on the next 4-door, awd-turbocharged monster. I feel like this car was made for the millionaire that has no clue what car they're buying, they're just buying it because it's another toy to invest it.

Nissan intended to sell this car to 30-something tech millionaires who grew up playing Forza, know all 80 Fast and Furious movies by heart, and believe that high-performance Japanese cars are the pinnacle of awesomeness.

Turns out most of them would rather have a Ferrari!

Only 710 horsepower? You can get more than that in a $70,000 Dodge.

I don't understand - the Nissan website is showing prices ranging from $113,540 to $210,740 for the GT-R lineup. Maybe there's some other special edition GT-R?

They are two separate versions with different body kits, engine performance etc... But you're right, if you need to ask you can't afford it. Which apparently Nissan has found that charging over a million USD hasn't exactly resulted in a groundswell of sales. Who knew?

Used Ford 40's, a fifth the price and able to stomp this Nissan into yesterday.
