Thread: What other car(s) did you seriously consider before getting your Mirage?

  1. #11
Funny thing: I have the impression the Echo was a quality-built machine. The used ones I've driven (~10-12 years old with 120k+ miles / 200+ kms) have been tight and rattle-free.

Guess what? I get the same impression from my Mirage with 90k miles / 145k kms on it.

My Yaris has been great. It had a clutch replaced under warranty at 23,000 miles, two recalls, but that's it. Been a great vehicle. So far, the Mirage has also been great with only one trip to the dealer for a TPMS issue that was actually caused by Discount Tire, but the dealer took care of it for free.

There was no other car I was seriously considering. All my Geo Metro friends were buying the Mirage. My friends are frugal and smart. I bought one too! No regrets.

No other car. Two mirages for a hair over 21k, lots of warranty, great reliability, amazing mileage and super basic DIY bones. Whats not to like?

That's hilarious. Please tell me you made that up! (The description, not the issues with Fiats.)

I was looking at a few 03'-05' Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8/9. At the time, there were a few that were decently priced but for the condition they were in, it wasn't worth it. Then, I was looking at the 2010-2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart Sportbacks, and at the time, they were just as much as a modified-high mileaged-'clutch makin noise' Evo 8. Now, they're a bit cheaper. I don't regret buying the Mirage though

I agree - glad I got the Mirage for every reason.

I was looking at an old 2008 Yaris automatic coupe, a true Toyota subcompact. It was beat to hell with over 100k miles on it but a fair $7k asking price. Drove fine, but I hate coupes with a passion so after us getting my fiance's G4 and I just had to have the hatch version. Ended up paying $7600 OTD for a six year younger car that still looks really new after 6 years. Im actually impressed with a Mitsubishi paintjob! Also the headlights dont have a smidge of haze on them either! After 6 years, thats amazing for a car built to budget like the Mirage. Also these tough lil engines do just fine getting 0W-20 oil every 10k miles, not 7500 IMO.

I test drove 3 cars total, including a demo Mirage. 1 used 2006 Audi A4 that had the worst alignment issue ever, and 2nd test drive was a Dodge Dakota 4x4 red at the Toyota dealer, used 2007.

The Mitsubishi felt like a smoother Audi A4. Just with not nearly the speed, and none of the sudden lane shifts when you take your hands off the wheel.

I also looked at a used Nissan Altima, and I didn't bother driving the car because it was clearly in a flood. The dash had a beauty water line.

I was also very annoyed by this. All I wanted when I looked at the Yaris was a red 2-door, mid trim level, with a manual, alloys, and fog lights. Toyota would not build such a creature, and that may be why I am here today.
